Message from the Head of School

Heather V. Moore Head of School/CFO 757-424-4327hmoore@hebrewacademy.net

I am honored to take on the position as your next Head of School. From the moment I took over as Interim Head one year ago,
I realized how much I enjoyed working more closely with the students, faculty and parents. I knew then how much I wanted to continue in this position. There is no better feeling than making a difference in a student’s life. I thank the Board of Trustees for its vote of confidence, and I greatly appreciate the time and energy committed by the Head of School Search Committee over the last several months. I give special thanks to Randi Gordon, Board President, and to Babbi Bangel, Search Committee Chair, for their tireless efforts with the search process and for their dedication to the school.

My 19 years with the Hebrew Academy and Strelitz has been the most fulfilling experience of my career, and the school has become an extremely important part of my family. During this time, I have served the school in a variety of roles from teacher to Chief Financial Officer and Business Manager to Interim Head. In addition, my two sons attended the school years ago and are now excelling at Virginia Tech and Grassfield High School. Through the variety of experiences serving as a member of our school’s staff, faculty, and administration, I have become 100% vested in the future of our school community.

As Head of School, one of my core responsibilities is to ensure the advancement of the school’s mission. I will continue to work to maintain and strengthen the school’s financial sustainability, student enrollment and student retention. I will ensure that our institution will continue to provide our students with the highest quality Jewish and secular education, as it has done for over sixty years, while utilizing 21st Century education strategies. Jewish ethics an values will continue to be threaded through the fabric of our curriculum and are essential for the future success of our school. I, along with the faculty and staff, will continue to guide that purpose into the future. I look forward to working with the outstanding community of faculty, staff, administration, trustees, students and families.
